KIDS YOGA Benefits
Yoga is something children can practice anywhere! The breathing, the concentration and the poses, lead to constant self-discovery. A child's yoga practice is an opportunity to experience play and focus without worrying about being wrong. Yoga is for everyone! Yoga is an option for children who shy away from physical activity or group activities and it helps athletic children excel in other physical activities and sports.
Enhances Physical Flexibility
Yoga promotes physical strength by teaching kids to use their muscles in new ways. Whether a pose is done standing, sitting, or lying down, each one can challenge various muscle groups while helping the child become aware of his body and how efficiently it's made to function.
Refines Balance and Coordination Balance
This is a key element of yoga. Balancing poses promote mental and physical clarity along with stability. Even if a child has difficulty standing on one foot, she learns mental and physical balance if she can stay calm when she falls and when she gets up to try again. As children learn to improve their physical balance they become filled with a sense of accomplishment.
Develops Focus and Concentration
Practicing poses encourages children to clear their mind and focus on one thing. As a result of this single thought to achieve a particular pose or stay balanced, yoga teaches children how to focus and concentrate better in school, resulting in better grades.
Boosts Self-Esteem and Confidence
Yoga practice helps to bring about learning on an experiential level. It teaches us to persevere, be patient, while working toward goals. When a child masters a pose, it naturally gives him confidence and self-esteem.
2 - Yoga for Pre-teen Girls
Yoga offers a forum for pre-teens to exercise independently in a non-competitive, yet focused environment. It can help build a sense of belonging and community with the other people in the classroom. Yoga can develop strength and balance, as they learn to support their own weight in new ways. Yoga highlights good posture and body alignment. The poses encourage focus and concentration. Yoga develops flexibility, which can be obtained through repeated stretching. Through yoga we explore self-confidence, self-esteem, body awareness, learning balance and techniques that ease stress. The session will be divided into three parts: yoga to relax the body, meditation/concentration to relax the mind, and a guided body scan to relax both body and mind together.
Pre-teen Girls(ages 9 to 12). 4 sessions Saturday February 6, 13, 20, 27, 2:00 to 2:45PM Pre-registration required! $50 / series
Benefits of yoga for pre-teens
1. Reduces Anxiety Yoga practice is calming and provides tools for reducing anxiety even outside of class. This is one of the most important benefits of yoga for pre-teens. Through learning and practicing breathing techniques along with stretches, teens learn to reduce stress by mastering relaxation. This leads to better consciousness and mindfulness. Using these breathing techniques before a big exam, during a conflict or any stressful situation, can help calm nerves and bring about a more positive and happier state of being. This gives pre-teens the tools they need to navigate any number of stressful situations.
2. Builds Confidence With daily peer pressures, pop culture influences, and modern stereotypes, young girls and boys are susceptible to a negative self-image. Yoga makes you sit up straighter, roll your shoulder blades back and become more mindful of your posture. This by nature builds their self-confidence and helps them to appreciate their unique qualities and abilities.
3. Increases Athletic Endurance Yoga builds core strength and the muscle tone around your spine which alleviates back, shoulder and neck pain. The breathing techniques teach how to take a fuller deeper breath, which reduces the chance of injury. Yoga also makes you more flexible. From ballet to gymnastics, wrestling to football, yoga is the perfect add-on. If you swim, play hockey, or take part in any other sport, yoga will elevate your skill set.
